Waking up early, while staying in the mountains is always a good idea. And in Bhimtal, the crisp morning air, the gentle sunshine and chirping of birds are complemented by the calmness of the Bhimtal lake, which is one of the landmarks in the city. The lake is rich is rich in aquatic life, making it a great place to watch fish dart in and out of the water or for more active travellers, book a paddle boat for a slow ride around the lake. Angling is another popular activity in the lake, though you will need a license for the same (it is prohibited during the breeding season, so check in advance, ask the manager for more details). The lake also has a tiny forested island that has an aquarium, accessible only by boat (entry costs INR 60 for adults & INR 30 for children).
